Does Collagen Make You Poop?
When my friend told me to start taking collagen supplements to help with my dull hair, I was like, "Sure, why not?" I mean, it couldn't hurt, right?
But then something weird happened. I started pooping like crazy. Like, way more often than usual. At first, I thought my friend was playing some kind of sick joke on me. Like, "Ha! Gotcha! You're gonna be pooping your brains out now!"
But then I did some research and found out that collagen actually contains an amino acid called glycine that can get your gut moving and promote regular bowel movements.
I guess I should be grateful, right? I mean, I'm getting rid of all the crap that was stuck inside me. And I have to admit, my hair does look a lot better now. But still, it's kinda weird to think that taking some supplement for my hair would end up making me poop so much.
I thought I’d do some more research into why, and here’s what I found out.
What are digestive the benefits of collagen?
The digestive benefits are collagen are that it helps build new connective tissue in your gastrointestinal tract (GI), stomach and intestines. This results in a strong gut lining, reduced inflammation so that you can actually absorb nutrients from food to keep you healthy.
This new tissue reduces inflammation and makes your gut more resilient to digest incoming food. Many people with food intolerances, allergies and issues like reflux and bloating can get these benefits. But it does not work for everyone, you need to try it for yourself.

There is no fixed timeline for how fast collagen can heal the gut. For me, stools became more regular and I noticed less bloating, within days.
Other people don’t experience changes for weeks or ever. It depends on various factors such as the severity of gut damage, individual differences, and the type and amount of collagen consumed.
A study published in 2022 by the National Library of Medicine found that women found improvement in bloating within about two weeks (3).
In general, collagen peptides can start to support gut health and promote healing within a few weeks to a few months of regular consumption. However, it is important to note that collagen powder should not be considered a quick fix for gut health issues.

Collagen supplements are not typically known to make your poop smell. There’s no direct evidence to suggest that they do. If anything, I noticed my poop smell less as it became more regular and often.
However, it is possible that certain types of collagen supplements that are combined with other ingredients or fillers may cause changes in bowel movements and odor.
If you're considering taking collagen, be aware that they may cause some digestive upset, including diarrhea, constipation and bowel movements.

I’m taking Primal collagen for 4 days
Abdominal cramping frequently stools
Started right 1hour after I took it and have not stop . 5 to 6 stool on the day and 3 to 4 at night I haven been able to sleep for 2 days not sleeping at all. I also have spasms on my guts the stool is mustard color!
Is not diarrhea is soft stool .
