But today you're curious about poop. I'm going to share what happens when you go to the bathroom once you start a bone broth cleanse or try the diet.

Why These Benefits Result in Bowel Movements

Some people experience minor diarrhea once they start drinking it regularly. You found this article, so chances are that you're experiencing the same.

I'm here to tell you that it's ok to be concerned. You're making incredible lifestyle changes that will help you live and longer and healthier life. So why do you feel the urge to.. you know... more than usual?

Why does bone broth make you poop?

Bone broth makes you poop because it has electrolytes which regulate bowel movements, it's full of gelatin that turbocharges your digestion, it changes your gut microbiome, it's removing toxins and it's helping you change fuel sources.

Let's go through these one by one in detail to get a clearer picture of what's going on in your body.

Nutrients, Sodium and Electrolytes

One of the reasons it makes you poop because of the natural sodium and electrolytes which help regulate bowel movements.

These minerals can stimulate bowel movements for regular drinkers. And if you are a new sipper, it may be the reason for your bathroom trip.

You’re Rebuilding Your Gut Health

A crucial part of a bone broth cleanse is rebuilding your gut health and microbiome. You are literally seeding new bacteria and proteins in your your gut. This changes the bacteria in your gut.

Some of these proteins are not common on Western diets, so you may not be used to digesting them. That is a good thing though. We need these amino acids to restore proper digestion and ensure you are getting all the nutrients from food you need to thrive.

This process also purges bad bacteria. And this has to go somewhere...

Your Reducing Inflammation

Bone broth helps to reduce inflammation by strengthening your immune system. But it does this by detoxing your organs in order for your cells to work efficiently in the long run.

This leads to your body shedding these toxins from your cells. It's a process that happens quickly, with the right nutrition.

This is one of the reasons your may get flu-like symptoms when doing a cleanse, fast or going keto fro the first time.

These toxins are eventually expelled through your poop, and diarrhea is the fastest way to get rid of them.

You get a similar effect if you eat lots of fiber for the first time.

You're Becoming Fat Adapted (like fasting)

Speaking of the "keto flu," it happens when your body is dealing with the temporary stress of switching its primary energy source from carbs to fat.

If you go your whole life relying on carbs for fuel, then, all of a sudden, drink bone broth, try keto or fasting, there will be a transition period.

If you eat less carbs, your liver and muscles have less glycogen to fuel exercise and daily activities. Fat is a more efficient fuel for most of these activities (except high intensity exercise), so you are doing your body a favor in the long-term.

This transition takes a week to a month, depending on your body. Symptoms typically include headaches, exhaustion, foggy-headedness and moodiness or feeling short-tempered.

Becoming a fat burning machine allows for a more flexible approach to life and exercise. Since bone broth is a protein-based fuel, it helps your body learn how to not rely on carbs for energy.

Becoming fat adapted is one of the health benefits of the Bone broth diet.

That being said, you might be pooping because a drastic change like this can mess with your digestion for a couple of days. It is almost always temporary and nothing to worry about.

Around 1% have allergic reactions to it if you are have a histamine intolerance. You might be experiencing this if you feel like crap whenever you drink it.

From a practical standpoint, if you already have diarrhea, you should reduce your bone broth consumption or even cut it back for a moment to avoid further problems.

Does Bone Broth Help With Constipation

Bone broth is found to be good for helping people with constipation because of the gelatin content, which helps to form a protective coating around the bowels.

My first day trying chicken broth, and yes, it did cause diarrhea to flare up, and flare up very fast. However, I did have about a quart of it in a 24 hour period, maybe I went overboard with it, so I will be cutting that back to about 8oz a day, ànd see how it goes from there. But I have to admit, even after just one day, I did feel better. I wasn’t so sleepy, but was fatigued, so let’s hope this subsides in the next few days with a smaller intake of broth.

I have been drinking bone broth for about 2 weeks now with intermediate fasting 3 days a week i have been having diarrhea about 2-3 times a day since I’ve started im worried I might get dehydrated from pooping so much should I stop drinking it? Sometimes I have the bone broth twice a day because it taste so good lol
